Intermittent Fasting – Cell Death

When you are taking all your meals, all your calories and stuffing them into a 4-6 hour window you are intermittent fasting. Why would you want to do this? Well, there are many benefits to this that seem all too simple.

Fasting and cell death

We’ve all heard “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” however if you think of the word itself “break” “fast” that’s exactly what you are doing, you are breaking your fast. It’s important that you don’t break your fast with starchy carb loaded foods like sugar covered cereals, bagels, bread etc. Why? It’s very simple when your body is fasting you have put your body in what I like to call “reset mode”, your body is in the cleanup stage. Think about it like your garbage disposal, if you cram a bunch of junk into the garbage disposal it struggles to break up all that food and get rid of it, if you keep shoving food down it then it will keep working hard, if you stop putting food down this disposal and let it run it cleans it and clears up all the gunk. This is what your body is doing when it’s in a fasting state, it is clearing out the gunk. The most important thing to know about fasting is: apoptosis  this is where your body allows the “bad” cells to die off. Most people know that cancer is caused by cells that have mutated, by allowing your body to kill off the bad cells you are giving your body a better cellular foundation.

Cell Death Apoptosis

How do I intermittent fast? I don’t have a set schedule that I stick to every day. Every day is different. But my basic day looks like this: Morning: black coffee at 7 am, workout at 8:30 Lunch/brunch at 11:00 am: I have a high-fat low carb lunch, for instance; coffee with heavy whipping cream (sometimes bulletproof coffee) MCT oil, fried eggs with the yolk and bacon or eggs, no bread. Dinner is at 5:00 pm and I will typically have a modified version of what I prepared for my family, I will eat moderate proteins like chicken, burger, steak etc and a large number of vegetables with a healthy fat on them, I do not eat the side dishes that I prepare, like the mac and cheese, potatoes, pasta etc. Between 11 am and 5 pm I also snack on healthy snacks like; pecans, macadamias nuts, So I fast for 16-18 hours and feast for 6-8 hours. My results have been wonderful with this lifestyle: I have lost over 20 pounds and no longer have insulin resistance, joint pain and headaches.
